Since 2022, Weghorst was under contract at Burnley FC. At the English club, he went on loan spells to Besiktas, Manchester United, and TSG Hoffenheim. The striker made his debut for the Dutch national team in 2018 and has played 39 matches since.

Technical director Alex Kroes: "Wout stands for an absolute top sports experience, and we find that extremely important at Ajax. Number 25: Weghorst succeeds Huntelaar and Dolberg

Wout Weghorst is Ajax's new number 25. A number he hasn't worn before in his club career (he has worn numbers 9, 10, 19, 27, 28, and 29). It's a number that has been worn by well-known defenders, midfielders, and attackers at Ajax, and it holds a special meaning for Weghorst as well.
