Zinchenko was born on December 15, 1996 in Radomyšl, Ukraine. In his home country, he followed the youth academy of Shakhtar Donetsk. Halfway through the 2015/2016 season he moved to Russia, where he made his professional debut with FK Ufa. In the summer of 2016, he made the switch to the English Premier League, signing a contract with Manchester City. With the exception of the 2016/2017 season, in which he played on loan in the Netherlands for PSV, the Ukrainian represented the English top club until mid-2022. He then moved to Arsenal, the club that loaned him out to Nottingham Forest over the past six months.
Director of Football Marijn Beuker: "With Oleksandr, we are bringing in an experienced player who gives us an immediate quality boost in the pursuit of Champions League football. As a left-back he is tactically strong, provides defensive stability and fits perfectly with our way of playing. Oleksandr has proven in the Premier League that, in addition to his defensive qualities, he can also play an important role in build-up play and breaking lines. We are therefore very pleased that he will strengthen our squad at least until the summer."
