With these three points, Ajax heads into the winter break sitting second in the Eredivisie. Although FC Utrecht still has a game to play, Ajax's superior goal difference ensures they will remain in second place.
Sloppy first half
The first half of Sparta vs. Ajax was lacklustre, with both teams losing possession frequently. Ajax managed just one chance through Anton Gaaei, but the winger slid his effort wide.
Sparta started the second half as the better side. The home team dominated the first 15 minutes after the break, though they failed to create any significant chances. Joshua Kitolano came closest for Sparta with a shot from just outside the box, but his effort drifted wide.
Regaining control
After making some substitutions, Ajax regained control of the game. The opening goal came from a penalty after Jorrel Hato was brought down by Said Bakari. Taylor converted the spot-kick with ease. In the closing stages, Traoré added a second with a composed finish.
Ajax will now head into the winter break with three points in the bag. The Eredivisie campaign resumes in three weeks, with Ajax hosting RKC in the Johan Cruijff ArenA.
