Ajax got off to a poor start in the friendly against Hannover 96. However, the Ajax players soon managed to recover, and avoided sustaining any damage early on. Van 't Schip's team improved as the match went on, and this led to an opening goal in the 24th minute. Brian Brobbey headed Borna Sosa's cross into the net.

Two minutes later, and Steven Bergwijn doubled the lead after some prime individual play: 2-0. Shortly before the break, Hannover 96 replied courtesy of Muhammed Damar, and the teams went to the dressing rooms at half-time with the score sitting at 2-1.

The German opponents in the friendly started the second half with an almost entirely new line-up. Despite renewed vigour, Hannover 96 couldn't get their tally in Spain any higher. Ajax didn't manage to score again, either. After 45 minutes the scoreboard stood unchanged, giving the Amsterdam team a narrow victory in the friendly.

Ajax – Hannover 96 2-1 (2-1)
24. Brobbey 1-0
26. Bergwijn 2-0
42. Damar 2-1
