Special | The Studs Controversy

The matches Ajax played against FC Carl Zeiss Jena in the 1969/1970 season are among the most memorable in the build-up years of the Golden Ajax era. The first leg in the quarter-finals of the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup went down in history as the match of ‘The Studs Controversy.’ The notorious first meeting in the former GDR was followed by a glorious 5-1 victory in the return leg by the fired-up Ajacieden. For Sjaak Swart, among others, it was a two-legged tie never to be forgotten.
