Ajax places Willem Weijs on leave

Ajax has placed Willem Weijs on leave with immediate effect. The contract of the Ajax U23 head coach runs until July 1, 2026, but will be terminated. Weijs has been the head coach of Ajax U23 since last summer; before that, he coached Ajax U19. Ajax expects to appoint a successor to Weijs in the short term.

I believe a refresh is needed at Ajax U23. This is an important team for us, where talents continue to develop in very specific aspects, both on the training ground and in matches. I want an experienced coach at Ajax U23 who has worked in different football cultures and can instil a winning mentality in the group.''

Ajax has reached an agreement with Oscar García on the coach’s move to Amsterdam. García will take up the role of head coach of Ajax U23. The Spanish coach has signed a contract with immediate effect, running until June 30, 2027. Tyrese Teuwsen (Ajax U19) was one of them. He found motivation in football and, with the support of the School of the Future, managed to overcome his challenges in this area.
