The ninth matchday in the VriendenLoterij Eredivisie kicked off at 21:00. Ajax started the match with attacking intent and created several early chances. Kenneth Taylor came close a few times in the opening fifteen minutes, and a goal by the midfielder after just sixteen seconds was disallowed. Despite Ajax’s strong start, it was AZ who opened the scoring. Weslley Patati found the net from a corner to make it 0-1.
Ajax continued to push forward and look for opportunities, but were unable to convert their chances. Just before half-time, AZ were awarded a penalty, which Troy Parrott calmly converted to double the visitors’ lead. The teams went into the dressing room at a 0-2 standing.
In the closing stages, Youri Baas seemed to have pulled one back for Ajax, but his goal was disallowed. Ajax ended the match with their first VriendenLoterij Eredivisie defeat of the season.
The next challenge awaits on Wednesday evening, when Ajax travel to London to face Chelsea in the Champions League.
