In this new Ajax Insights, we take a closer look at the statistics of the 27-year-old player. The current Ajax defender suffered a knee injury two years ago while playing for Arsenal. This was his first start since June 11, 2024.
But how did Tomiyasu perform in the 69 minutes he was given by coach Oscar García? The full-back recorded a pass accuracy of 83 per cent. Even in the opponent’s half, where you are normally under more pressure, his passing accuracy remained above eighty per cent: 81.3.
He was also important defensively for Ajax. In the 69 minutes he played, Tomiyasu made four ball recoveries. Only Jorthy Mokio and Josip Šutalo had more among the Ajax players on the pitch. In addition, he recorded three defensive clearances. Once again, only two Ajax players ranked above him in this category: Mokio and Youri Baas.
Finally, he also made two interceptions. An interception means cutting out a pass or cross by closing the passing lane. Once again, only Mokio had more interceptions. The Belgian, therefore, also delivered an excellent performance.
