Fresh off a 1-2 victory at NEC on Sunday, Ajax faced another tough challenge against FC Utrecht, which proved to be the case. The visitors took the lead in the 16th minute when a free kick created chaos in the box, allowing David Min to score from close range: 0-1.

Ajax responded decisively between the 25th and 29th minutes. First, Anton Gaaei equalized with an absolute screamer from long range, sending the stadium into raptures: 1-1. The Danish defender's stunning goal earned him a well-deserved round of applause from the home crowd.

Just four minutes later, Ajax turned the game around. Jorrel Hato’s shot took a deflection off Utrecht's Jens Toornstra, leaving the goalkeeper helpless and making it 2-1.

As the game progressed, Utrecht grew increasingly dangerous and created several chances. Ajax managed to survive until the closing stages, but the equalizer eventually came. Yoann Cathline cut inside and struck the ball off the inside of the post, which then ricocheted off goalkeeper Remko Pasveer into the net: 2-2.

Weghorst: 'Important points'

Wout Weghorst really showed Ajax what he's worth against NEC, scoring twice. Ajax won 2-1, thanks in part to the striker being on target. It was by no means easy in Nijmegen, and Weghorst could see that too. "Certainly in the final stages they came close to our goal a bit more often. But they are important points."
