Earlier in the week, Ajax had convincingly beaten Celtic 5-1 after a strong second half. Three days later, John Heitinga’s side were the inferior team against Serie A club Como 1907. The hosts took control early on and opened the scoring in the 26th minute.
Following a foul by Lucas Rosa on Jayden Addai, the referee pointed to the spot and Nico Paz converted the penalty past goalkeeper Remko Pasveer.
Ajax made six substitutions at half-time, but a comeback was not on the cards. In fact, just a minute after the restart, it became 2-0. Martin Baturina found the far corner behind Pasveer after a quick transition.
In the 64th minute, the damage increased. Como 1907 were awarded a second penalty of the evening after Nick Verschuren committed a clumsy foul just a metre from the byline. Former FC Utrecht striker Anastasios Douvikas stepped up and calmly made it 3-0 from the spot.
In the final stages, Ajax had two good chances to salvage some pride, but substitutes Brian Brobbey and Raúl Moro failed to convert.
Como 1907 - Ajax 3-0 (1-0)
