Ajax fight their way to victory over AZ

Ajax claimed a 1-0 home victory over AZ. An early goal from Tolu was enough for all three points. Míchel Sánchez's side battled for the three points until the very end and ultimately held on for a hard-fought victory.

Ajax took an early 1-0 lead through Tolu. After a good cross from Abdellah Ouazane, the striker rose above his direct opponent and headed home to make it 1-0. After that goal, Ajax looked the better side, but both teams created few chances. Unfortunately for Ajax, Julian Brandt was forced off with an injury in the first half.

Well defended
In the second half, Ajax struggled against the visitors from Alkmaar. Míchel Sánchez's side defended well, but were barely able to create anything themselves. In stoppage time, Oscar Gloukh did get the chance to give Ajax a relieving 2-0 lead. He aimed for the near corner, but missed the target.

Shortly before the final whistle, AZ had one more big chance through Mexx Meerdink, but Marc ter Stegen kept a clean sheet. When referee Allard Lindhout blew the final whistle, loud cheers erupted around the Johan Cruijff ArenA.
