Van der Vaart was born on May 28, 2006, in Zaanstad. He transitioned from the youth academy of Danish club Esbjerg fB to Ajax's youth academy in 2023. This season, he is part of the Ajax U19 squad. Damián is the son of Rafael van der Vaart, who played 156 matches for Ajax's first team between 2000 and 2005, scoring 61 goals.
