Ajax burst out of the blocks, testing Feyenoord’s goal within the first fifteen seconds. A thunderous shot from Steven Berghuis was brilliantly parried by goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther.
Goal Brobbey
Chances were scarce for the next half-hour, but in the 37th minute, Ajax broke the deadlock through Brian Brobbey’s close-range finish to make it 1-0. The flag initially went up for offside, but replays confirmed that Berghuis, who provided the assist, was onside in the build-up. Shortly after, Davy Klaassen struck the crossbar with a powerful header.
Feyenoord gained momentum early in the second half, and former Ajax player Quinten Timber equalised in the 67th minute, making it 1-1.
Golden opportunities.
Ajax responded with relentless attacking pressure. Wout Weghorst had the biggest chance but saw his penalty saved by Wellenreuther. Substitute Christian Rasmussen also came close with two golden opportunities.
However, Ajax’s persistence paid off in the fourth minute of stoppage time. Kenneth Taylor met a pinpoint cross from Anton Gaaei, slotting the ball home to send the Johan Cruijff ArenA into raptures.
