Ajax has reached an agreement with Florian Grillitsch. The defensive midfielder was under contract until 1 July 2022 with TSG Hoffenheim, which plays in the German Bundesliga. Grillitsch comes to Ajax as a free transfer. He signed a contract for one season in Amsterdam, until 30 June 2023. The agreement includes an option for Ajax for two years.
Grillitsch was born on 7 August 1995 in Neunkirchen, Austria. During the 2019/2020 season he played at Hoffenheim under the current head coach of Ajax, Alfred Schreuder. Before the Austrian international moved to Hoffenheim in 2017, he played for Werder Bremen.
UEFA communicated the match schedule for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League on Saturday morning. Ajax opens the six-match series in Amsterdam. On Wednesday 7 September, Rangers FC will be the first opponent at 18:45. The first away game follows six days later against Liverpool. The kick-off of that game is at 21:00.
Ajax is set to face off against Liverpool, Napoli and Rangers FC in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League. This group was the outcome of Thursday evening's draw in Istanbul, Turkey. The first round of the largest European club tournament is scheduled for Tuesday, September 6 and Wednesday, September 7.

During last season, cameras followed former Ajax Academy players Ryan Gravenberch, Jurriën Timber and Devyne Rensch, both on and off the pitch. This led to the documentary AJAX: Pearls of Amsterdam. The documentary will be available exclusively on Prime Video from 7 October.
