Ajax started the match in the Johan Cruijff ArenA strongly. They spent the majority of the first hour on the half of the team from Zwolle, with Davy Klaassen living up to his nickname ‘Mr. 1-0’, scoring the opening goal in the 18th minute. Ajax continued to hunt for opportunities to find the net and succeeded. Mika Godts scored the 2-0 after an assist from Anton Gaaei. The teams went into the dressing room at a 2-0 score.

After returning from the dressing room, Ajax struggled with PEC Zwolle. Kaj de Rooij scored the 2-1 for PEC Zwolle, and even came close to scoring the equaliser. But thanks to Mika Godts, who scored the 3-1, Ajax were able to safely secure the three points. Newly returned Kasper Dolberg didn't make his debut today, but James McConnell, celebrating his birthday today, did get a few minutes of playing time.

Next week, Ajax will face PSV in Eindhoven. That match will start at 14:30 on Sunday, September 21. But before that, Ajax will play the first match in the League Phase of the UEFA Champions League. The first opponent will be Inter at home, in the Johan Cruijff ArenA on Wednesday, September 17, at 21:00.

Kasper Dolberg is an Ajacied once again. Following the international break with Denmark, the striker travelled to Amsterdam to report to his (new) teammates. The Ajax player left six years ago as a 21-year-old boy and now returns at the age of 27 as a man. "You grow as a person, and I have a bit more self-confidence."
