Tahirović was born on 3 March 2003 in Spånga, Sweden. He began his professional career with Swedish side Vasalunds IF. In 2021, he moved to AS Roma, and in the summer of 2023, he made the switch to Ajax. The 21-year-old made his debut for the Amsterdam club on 12 August 2023 in the match between Ajax and Heracles Almelo: 4-1. In total, the Bosnia and Herzegovina international made 39 appearances for Ajax, scoring twice.

Technical Director Alex Kroes said: "Benjamin had fallen out of favour at Ajax, and it was in the best interest of both parties to find a suitable, permanent solution. There was considerable interest from clubs looking to take him on loan, but Brøndby IF wanted to sign him on a permanent deal, which was the preferred option. We hope he will be able to revive his career in Denmark, and we have wished him every success in doing so."
