For Ajax, these are decisive and therefore tense final weeks at the top end of the VriendenLoterij Eredivisie. The same applies to Heracles, who find themselves at the bottom of the highest level of Dutch football.
In matchday 29, the Amsterdam side did themselves no favours with their home defeat to the Tukkers. FC Twente leapfrogged Ajax in the standings, pushing the beaten club down to fifth place. A day later, Heracles suffered an even heavier defeat against sc Heerenveen. On Frisian soil, Ernest Faber’s team lost 4–1.
Since that round, a very disappointing one for both Ajax and Heracles, there has been only one remedy for the two clubs: hard work. Extremely hard work, in fact.
