Although Ajax was rarely in danger at home, Francesco Farioli's side also struggled to create much in the first half. The only noteworthy moment came from Brian Brobbey. The striker turned well to evade his direct opponent but sent his shot wide of the target.

In the second half, Ajax appeared to play with a bit more urgency. The deadlock was finally broken from a set piece. Substitute Branco van den Boomen curled a corner onto the head of Rugani, who successfully directed it into the far corner.

Just before the final whistle, Akpom sealed the game. The striker headed a low cross superbly into the net via the underside of the bar. Ajax then calmly saw out the match. This was the final game in the Johan Cruijff ArenA for 2024. On Sunday, Ajax will play away at Sparta at 12:15 PM, after which the winter break begins.
