Ajax, baseball club and national champion
Ajax was one of the founders of the Dutch baseball league in 1921, with its own baseball division. Over four periods, 39 seasons were spent at the highest baseball level, during which Ajax became national champions four times: in 1921, 1928, 1942, and 1948. Young football players played baseball during the summer break. In 1972, the club decided to no longer participate in baseball and to focus entirely on football. Famous former Ajax baseball players include Boy Balinger, Johan Cruijff, Peter Hendriks, Dassy Jasmijn, Henri Kok, André Kraan, Jessie de La Noi, Ruben Leijsner, John Ludenhoff, Marco Nagelkerke, Ben Richardson, Ko van Wijk, and Leo van Wijk.
A new tradition born
Last year, with the anniversary kit for the club's 125th birthday, a new tradition has been born: the release of a special product on the club's birthday, referencing the club's rich heritage. This season, the baseball division of AFC Ajax takes centre stage.
