Ajax lost Wednesday afternoon’s friendly game to sc Heerenveen in Friesland. In the Abe Lenstra Stadium, the home team won by 1-0. Each team consisted of players who had not been called up to their national teams in this interland period.
Thus Klaas Jan Huntelaar, Edson Álvarez and Siem de Jong were in the starting line-up. Zakaria Labyad, Carel Eiting and Bruno Varela were also at kick-off.
Disallowed goal
After a tough first fifteen minutes, Heerenveen scored the first goal via former Ajacied Jordy Bruijn. A ball cleared long by Heerenveen keeper Filip Bednarek landed at Bruijn’s feet. He remained cool when he came face to face with keeper Varela. Where Ajax had more possession, it was Heerenveen who created danger on the rebounds.
After Heerenveen’s goal, Ajax believed to have tied up the game via Huntelaar. His goal was disallowed due to offside. After that, it was Heerenveen’s turn again. And it was Bruijn who once more created danger in front of Ajax’s goal. A shot by the Fries forward hit the crossbar via Varela.
More pressure
The Amsterdam team increased the pressure on its opponent’s goal in the second half. In the 50th minute, Huntelaar sent a shot into the the far corner, but it was intercepted by keeper Bednarek. The Ajax forward’s shot was a reaction to a rebound from Eiting’s attempt on goal. Ajax continued to apply pressure, but did not create any danger.
Fifteen minutes before time, the Amsterdam team thought they would be able to put the tying goal onto the scoreboard. Once again the goal was disallowed because of offside. This time, it was Labyad who saw his goal get disqualified. So coach Erik ten Hag, Richard Witschge and Marc Overmars all watched Ajax lose this friendly game by 1-0.
