AFC Ajax NV’s Supervisory Board has extended Edwin van der Sar’s contract by 4 years, until the General Shareholders Meeting in November 2023.  This is conforming to the established procedure whereby the General Manager can be re-appointed by the Supervisory Board after the General Shareholders Meeting for another term.

Van der Sar (49) has been a member of Ajax’s management team since November, 2012.  The former keeper was appointed to the position of General Manager in November 2016, and, this capacity, also acts as the chairman of the management team.

Leen Meijaard, Chairman of the Supervisory Board: “Edwin van der Sar has played a key role in Ajax’s success in the past few years.  To continue with this success, we wish to extend his contract.  When we had discussions with him, it was clear that he wanted to continue with Ajax as well.  He represents Ajax both here and abroad in an excellent way.  Under his leadership, Ajax will continue to take steps.  We are sure of this.”

General Manager Edwin van der Sar: “I actually wasn’t even aware that my term was ending.  I don’t feel like I’m done at Ajax, so I’m happy with the confidence they’re placing in me.  Our common goal is to make Ajax 1 an integral part of top European football.  A healthy company approach is needed for that, one that is focused on national and international growth based on Ajax’s core values.  That’s ambitious, and I like that.  With the rest of the management team, I’ll be happy to continue to work towards achieving that.  We’re well on our way, but we’re not there yet.”
