Ajax has had a fitting end to its training camp in Qatar on Saturday. Two days after defeating KAS Eupen in a friendly game, coach Erik ten Hag’s team was too strong for Club Bruges. The Belgian leader was defeated, 3-1.
Quincy Promes made his return after having been out with an injury for several weeks, and crowned his first minutes with a nice goal. After 52 minutes, the wing forward rounded off good work by Hakim Ziyech, and the strong Lassina Traoré. This was Ajax’s 3-0 goal, and the final nail in Club Bruges’ coffin.
Quick goals
Quick goals were scored in the first half as well. Within fifteen minutes, the Amsterdam team was in a 2-0 lead thanks to goals by Odilon Kossounou (own goal after a shot from Noussair Mazraoui) and Hakim Ziyech (blistering shot into the upper corner). A few provocations came from the other side. Andre Onana had to give his all on one occasion. The keeper, fortunately, headed into halftime with a clean sheet.
Goal for Club Bruges
After play had resumed, Onana had more work to do. Ajax took an early 3-0 lead, but Club Bruges came out of its shell and created opportunities. It took some time before the Belgian team struck back, as Onana wasn’t going to be defeated easily. In the 83rd minute, Thomas van den Keybus took advantage of a mistake in the Amsterdam defense: 3-1. That was the final score in the Al Janoub Stadium.
