De Jong (Aigle, Switzerland, January 18, 1989) came over from Newcastle United in the summer of 2018. He was loaned out to Sydney FC last season, winning the Australian championship with the team.
The former international also played for Ajax from 2005 to 2014.  He made his debut in the first team on September 26, 2007, during the Kozakken Boys – Ajax (1-2) KNVB Cup match.

DeJong has played in a total of 227 official matches with Ajax’s first team, and has scored 87 goals.  He won the KNVB Cup with the team in 2010, as well as four national championships (2011, 2012,
2013, 2014).  He also won the Johan Cruijff Shield with Ajax in 2013.

Marc Overmars, director of football affairs: “Siem’s contract with us was still valid for a few more months. His wish was to play games and take on this adventure in the United States.  We want to support him in this, as Siem has been very important for the club. I’ve wished him the best of luck in this new chapter in his career.”
