Ajax’s fifth friendly match of the pre-season, and its second of the day, ended in a draw. In Hattem, the game ended in a 1-1 score against Steaua Bucharest on Saturday evening. The Rumanians took an early lead, but Carel Eitng scored the tying goal midway through the first half: 1-1. The score remained unchanged for the rest of the game.
Earlier that day, a much younger Ajax had played against FC Nordsjaelland, which ended in a 1-3 loss. Against Steaua, officially called FCSB, it mainly A-selection players participated.
But the start wasn’t very convincing. Cristian Tanase scored the opening goal after just six minutes. Unlike earlier in the day, the Ajacieds found the resilience to take action to erase the deficit. After a few half-baked opportunities, the reward came in the 24th minute, via Eiting.
Beautiful goal Eiting
The midfielder received a pass from David Neres, remained standing in the penalty kick area, and managed to pull the trigger: 1-1.
Eiting was undoubtedly the big man of the first half, and not just thanks to his goal. He also caught attention with a great drag move. His Rumanian opponents could only watch.
Otherwise, nothing noteworthy happened in the first half. Zakaria Labyad sent the ball just wide on a free kick, while a threatening Rumanian counter didn’t result in any goals, either.
Ajax came onto the field after the break with the same 11 players, but in the course of the second half, coach Erik ten Hag made a few changes. Ryan Gravenberch, Sebastian Pasquali, Dennis Johnsen and Victor Jensen all came in. These last 3 had also substituted earlier against FC Nordsjaelland.
With these young talents on the field, nothing changed on the scoreboard. With a tie in the pocket, both teams retreated to the locker rooms.
