Ajax has also won its second friendly match of the season. On a visit to Dynamo Dresden, Frank de Boer’s team won easily, 0-3. Christian Eriksen scored two goals in the first half. Danny Hoesen scored after the break.
The match against Dynamo Dresden is part of the training camp in Austria. On match day, Ajax flew one hour away from Innsbruck to Dresden, Germany. In a summery Glücksgas Stadium, the club from the Second Bundesliga was the first professional club to meet Ajax in the pre-season. Shortly before the match, it was announced that Ajax and FC Barcelona had broadly reached an agreement for the loan out of Bojan Krkic to Ajax. The Spanish forward is the second reinforcement to join so far for the new season, after it was announced the previous day that defender Mike van der Hoorn would be playing in Amsterdam for the next four seasons. Thus Frank de Boer has two new forces who will soon be reporting to Ajax.
Ajax’s new home jersey was worn for the second time in a row for an anniversary match. Last Wednesday, Sjaak Swart had first honours during his celebration match at the Olympic Stadium. During the special match to celebrate Mister Ajax’s 75th birthday, may Ajax heroes from the past were the first to wear the new jersey. On Saturday afternoon, it was the turn of today’s Ajax to wear it. The reigning Dutch champion had been invited by Dynamo Dresden to help celebrate the German club’s 60th birthday. Ajax happens to play an important part in the club’s history. In the 1971-1972 season, the clubs met in the first round of the Europa Cup I. It was during the time that Ajax was among the top European clubs, and had won three Europacups in 1971, 1972 and 1973.
Just like he had in Putten, Frank de Boer sent in two different teams onto the field. In the first half, most of the internationals played their first minutes of the season. Christian Eriksen also made his entrance in Ajax’s new home jersey. In the first half, he took centre stage. With two spot-on free kicks, he gave Ajax a 2-0 lead going into halftime in Dresden. After 2 minutes 54 seconds, he scored his first goal. From a 23 meter distance, he left keeper Benjamin Kirsten without a hope. Twenty minutes later, he beat the goalie again. After conferring with captain Siem de Jong, the Dane took charge of the ball and sent it into the goal via the underside of the crossbar.
After the break, a much younger Ajax came onto the field. With Lasse Schöne (27) holding down the fort, the young team scored quickly. On a pass from Tobias Sana, Danny Hoesen scored the third Ajax goal of the afternoon in the 48th minute. In front of almost 21.000 spectators, no further goals were scored. After substitute Robert Koch hit the post with his shot, Mickael Pote was offside when the rebound was shot in. The same Pote thought he had scored again in the closing minutes, but the flag was raised once again at his play, leaving both Jasper Cillessen and Kenneth Vermeer with clean sheets.
Frank de Boer: “I’m very pleased with the way we played today. We were always able to find the free man. That’s what I want to see. Because of that, we were able to control and dominate the match. The most important thing is that everyone has 45 minutes in his legs. Now, in the upcoming weeks, we’re going to build further towards the new season.”
Ajax remains in Austria until Tuesday. Next weekend, two friendly matches are scheduled, against RKC Waalwijk and De Graafschap. Both matches will be played on Saturday. Two days later, Ajax leaves for De Lutte for the second training camp of the pre-season.
