Ajax drew its friendly game against Wolverhampton, 1-1. Donny van de Beek scored for Erik ten Hag’s team, and Daley Blind made his return in the red and white jersey in the second half.
Ajax faced The Wolves with several players who are also expected to be at kick-off of next week’s game against Sturm Graz. In the cozy, compact Bescot Stadium, the start was promising. David Neres treated the crowd to a few feats, and Donny van de Beek came close to scoring the opening goal fifteen minutes into the game, but his shot was blocked.
Midway through the first half, Wolverhampton, recently promoted to the Premier League, became stronger. A breakaway by Diogo Jota in the 31st minute was neutralized by Andre Onana, who remained cool when faced with the striker, and grabbed the ball.
Gorgeous goal Van de Beek
It seemed that the teams would retreat to the lockers with a 0-0 score at halftime, but Van de Beek struck. He set up an attack from the right with Noa Lang, ducked into the penalty box area, and, with a rake move, he curved the ball into the left corner.
During halftime, Frenkie de Jong remained in the locker room and Daley Blind took over at central defense. It was both special and familiar to see him in the red and white jersey. Wolverhampton wasn’t intimidated by the former Man United player and stoically sought out the tying goal.
Penalty for Wolves
This came in the 74th minute when Nico Tagliafico haulde Costa down, and the ball was placed on the spot. Ruben Neves bought his team to a 1-1 score from twelve yards out. The English team pressed on, but the draw remained. The second friendly of the day takes place tonight at 20:45. The opponent will be Walshall FC.
