Ajax have reached agreement with Thimothée Atouba Essama about a contract. The defender comes from Hamburger SV and signs a contract in Amsterdam that will run for two seasons, to 1 July 2011. In the deal there is an option for two additional seasons, to 1 July 2013.
Atouba was born in Yaoundé, Cameroon on 17 February 1982. Before joining Ajax, the defender played 83 league matches for German side HSV. Before that he played for Tottenham Hotspur in England and Swiss sides FC Basel en Xamax Neuchatel. In his native Cameroon Atouba played for Union Douala. The 27-year-old player has earned 40 caps for Cameroon.
