Ajax and Andre Onana have reached an agreement for the extension of his contract which had been effective until June 30, 2021. The new agreement is valid until June 30, 3022.
“This extension means that I’ll be staying here for at least one more season”, said Onana, in whom many other clubs are interested. “It was a difficult decision. But I’m a young keeper, and I need to play. I’m assured of this at Ajax, and it would be a question mark at some of the other top clubs abroad. Moreover, Ajax had done a lot for me. It’s important for me to give something back to the club. I hope we’re going to win many prizes together soon.”
Onana was born on April 2, 1996, in Nkol Ngok, Cameroon. The keeper came over to Ajax from FC Barcelona’s youth academy in the summer of 2015. He made his debut in the first team on August 20, 2016, in the Ajax – Willem II game. With Ajax, he reached the finals of the Europa League that season. He has played in 126 official games to date in Ajax 1.
