The Dutch national football squad will continue on the road to Euro 2004 in Portugal with Rafael van der Vaart in the starting line up against Moldova on Wednesday.
As Holland's most offensive-minded midfielder, the 20-year-old Ajax player will have to provide strikers Patrick Kluivert and Ruud van Nistelrooy with added ammunition in the away match against Moldova, who have not earned a single point so far. By choosing Van der Vaart, Holland's coach Dick Advocaat grants an important wish of his striking duo.
Kluivert and Van Nistelrooy have complained that the supply from midfield has been lacking. After the draw against the Czech Republic they showed themselves very pleased with Van der Vaart's performance as an early substitute. ,,It's fun to play with Rafael", they concluded.
Contrary to his normal habits, Dick Advocaat was not mysterious about his line up when asked after Holland's last training session before leaving to Moldova. ,,Van der Vaart will start behind the two strikers", he said, announcing the Ajax player's debut for Holland as a starter.
Line up Holland: Waterreus; Ricksen, Stam and Frank de Boer; Seedorf, Van Bommel, Van der Vaart, Davids and Zenden; Kluivert and Van Nistelrooy.
