In his new role as Marketing Director, Edwin van der Sar had his first two contract signings during the past few days. The 130 time international saw sponsor Oger renew its ties to Ajax. Accor Hotels also extended the partnership. A nice start for Van der Sar.
At the signing with Oger, Van der Sar’s thoughts briefly returned to the nineties. As Ajax’s keeper, he wore a new player’s suit by Oger. “It’s great that a sponsor like Oger is still with Ajax so many years later. We are striving for longer-term partnerships with our sponsors and partners. It’s great that we’re continuing this successful relationship, and it’s partly thanks to Oger that Ajax has the professional appearance that we’re proud of.”
Van der Sar was recently in Brazil for a few days, where Ajax was preparing for the second half of the season. There, he saw first-hand how Ajax and main sponsor AEGON (and its Brazilian insurance daughter, Mongeral) generated lots of exposure for the second year in a row in the country that will host the 2014 World Cup. The same can be said for Van der Sar, who, as a former keeper for Ajax, the Dutch national team and Manchester United, among others, was often a target for the many cameras in Rio de Janeiro. This fits into his new role as Marketing Director for Ajax, and the outside world will now associate him more directly with the reigning Dutch national champion once again.
From that perspective, it’s a great milestone that the first two contract extensions in the commercial area are a done deal. “I’m pleased that Oger and Accor Hotels have expressed their trust in the commercial course that we’re sailing at Ajax.”
