Ajax has extended the contract of youth player Donny van de Beek. The youth international’s current agreement had been valid until June 30, 2017. The talented midfielder’s new and improved contract is effective per July 1, 2015, until June 30, 2018.
Van de Beek (Amersfoort, 18 april 1997) is currently in Qatar with Ajax 1. “It’s great that the club is showing so much confidence in me”, he said. “What are my goals for the future? I want to make it to the first team as fast as possible, become a starting player. I’ve dreamed about playing for Ajax 1. Not just once, but many times. That I literally score in the ArenA. I hope that I can get playing time in the first team as soon as possible, but first I need to make my debut with the Ajax Reserves. I’m just going to try to perform as well as I can while we are here in Qatar.”
De Boer is also pleased with Van de Beek’s new agreement. “A fantastic signal”, says the head coach. “Ajax wants to enjoy these players for as long as possible. I think he can become a true Ajax football player. He isn’t there yet, of course. Donny needs to gain the speed of a pro, but he’s adjusting to our level pretty quickly.”
Donny is often compared to Davy Klaassen. De Boer understands this. “They’re both from solid stocl. They’re never satisfied, have the ability to score and aren’t afraid of defensive work.”
The formal signing will take place in Amsterdam at a later date.
