Nico Tagliafico has signed a new agreement, committing to remain with Ajax next season. The Argentinian international’s new contract will run until mid-2022.
Tagliafico is on his second season in Amsterdam. He came over from Independiente in January 2018. Nico has played in 57 matches to date with Ajax 1. The left back was good for 6 goals and 8 assists. Three of his six goals have been scored in this Champions League season.
Since his transfer to Ajax, 26 year-old Tagliafico has become a steady asset in the Argentinian national team. He played in the World Cup in Russia, and, in Lionel Messi’s absence, even wore the captain’s band for the Argentinians.
“This is good for Ajax and a good signal to the group”, says Football Affairs Director Marc Overmars. “It shows that we are ambitious for the future.” Although the current season is now in the phase in which prizes are awarded, Ajax is also preparing for next season. Andre Onana, Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Noussair Mazraoui have all renewed their contract. Razvan Marin (Standard Liege), Kik Pierie (sc Heerenveen) and keeper Kjell Scherpen (FC Emmen) have also all been signed for 2019-2020.
