Ajax and Vaclav Cerny will part ways. After 6 years, the young Czech player will go to FC Utrecht, effective immediately. Cerny still had a contract with Ajax until June 30, 2020. Cerny has played in a total of 29 official games with Ajax 1 and has scored 4 times.
Ajax youth pupil
21 year-old Cerny came to Ajax in 2013. The wing forward was one of the youth academy’s outstanding players. In his home country, the Czech Republich, he earned some attention; Cerny was named Talent of the Year in 20143.
In 2015, Cerny caught the eye of coach Frank de Boer, who brought him into the first team. On August 15, 2015, Cerny made his official debut for Ajax 1 in a game against Willem II: 3-0. A few days later, he made his European debut in the play-off round of the UEFA Europa League against FK Jablonec, of the Czech Republic.
Cerny, who learned Dutch very fast after arriving in the Netherlands, developed at a quick pace, but suffered some setbacks as well. In 2017, he was seriously injured and spent 8 months recovering. Resilience and good rehabilitation enabled the young Czech player to get back onto the field in the summer of 2018. In November of that year, he returned to the first team.
