This is a special edition of the AEGON Toekomst Journal. This time, Ajax players from E2 and D2 are in the spotlight, but the young players of C.S. Atletico Arad also have a prominent role. Ajax head sponsor AEGON’s guests played two friendly matches at de Toekomst.
Ajax players from E2 played against their Romanian counterparts. This team from Atletico Arad is the Romanian champion. D2’s opponents ended last year in second place in the national rankings for their age category. D2 posted a resounding 19-0 victory during this friendly match. Substitute Donyell Malen’s performance was one of the highlights. Malen scored no fewer than nine goals. E2 won with a 2-0 score. Paul Fosu- Mensah scored both goals for the Amsterdam team.
“The guests got a taste of what it’s like at Ajax”, says Judith Suurenbroek from AEGON. “It was amazing for them to experience that. Ajax and Ajax’s youth training program open doors internationally.” AEGON is partners with the Romanian Banca Transilvania. Both partners, and Ajax, made this trip for Atletico Arad’s youth players possible. The Romanian bank initiated the trip. For this undertaking, which was important from a social responsibility standpoint, the Romanian organization found a willing participant in its Dutch partner. “Romania is very important for AEGON, it’s one of the countries we are focussing on”, explains Suurenbroek. In addition to the two matches at de Toekomst, the Romanians also took a tour of the Arena, and were taken for a visit in Amsterdam.
The Romanian talents were guided by Nevenca Doca from Banca Transilvania, among others. She also received positive feedback from the young players. “Here, they see what they can achieve, and how professional football can be”, continued Doca. “This trip is inspirational on all levels.”
