Ten Hag: 'Everyone available on Sunday, except Tagliafico'

Erik ten Hag will not be able to call on Nico Tagliafico for the Classic.  The Argentine is suffering from a knee injury and will not be able to play in Sunday’s game against Feyenoord.  All other players are available.

As is Noussair Mazraoui.  He was substituted early in the cup game against sc Heerenveen as a precaution, due to calf pain.  Mazraoui could potentially substitute for Tagliafico at left back in De Kuip.  “We have several options”, according to Ten Hag.  Mazraoui started at midfield against Heerenveen.  “He did a great job, shame that it was so short.  It’s great that so many of our players can play in several positions.”

Tagliafico’s injury is a setback.  Ten Hag: “We hadn’t expected that.  Sometimes these things happen, and you need to be able to deal with it.”

Magallán also an option
Ten Hag would not reveal his strategy for Sunday’s game.  A starting spot for Lisandro Magallán could be an option.  “We could definitely consider that.  But first, we’re going to take a good look at everything and make some decisions.”

'We gained a lot of experience with this type of match in the Champions League . We’re looking forward to it'

Despite the Rotterdam team being behind in the rankings, Ten Hag sees Feyenoord as a very tough opponent.  “At the start of the season, everyone talked about the competition between Ajax and PSV.  But I still think that Feyenoord should be a part of that.  Their player potential is huge, their selection is excellent.  Feyenoord – Ajax is an even in itself.  We gained a lot of experience with this type of match in the Champions League, in this sort of setting.  We’re looking forward to it, these are the matches that you want to win.”

Watch out for Van Persie
Ten Hag sees Robin van Persie as being one of Feyenoord’s biggest threats.  “He’s very smart, has chutzpah.  It’s definitely no fun to play against him, so that will be a challenge for us.”  In summary: the Ajacieds need to ensure that the Feyenoord striker doesn’t hit his stride.  “That may be the key to a good result in this game.”
