During the weekly press conference, Erik ten Hag looked ahead to Sunday’s home game against AZ. Ajax’s coach gave an update concerning 2 Ajax players, he analysed the opponent, and also looked ahead to next season.
“Kasper Dolberg can start, but he’s lagging behind in terms of physical fitness. Frenkie de Jong is out for the rest of the season”, the Ajax coach informed the press about the fitness of both Ajax players, who have been injured.
'Compliments to AZ'
Ten Hag then answered a question about AZ, 1 spot behind Ajax in the rankings. “AZ has had an outstanding season. The team is playing well, and has a very compelling style. Compliments to them.”
“Will AZ play with 5 defenders? We need to be prepared to play against any type of system, including an unconventional one. I think that AZ will play with 4 defenders, but I read John van den Brom’s mind.”
'Thinking about the longer term’
Finally, Ten Hag discussed the the big picture, still considering the upcoming games against AZ and Excelsior. “I started on January 1st. When you start, you go for the title, but we didn’t achieve that.”
“We’re thinking of the longer term. Of course we’re working on next season”, he said, referring the pre-season program and potential reinforcements. But first, the focus is on the match against AZ, kicking off on Sunday at 14:30 in the ArenA.
