Tagliafico is a no-go, Ziyech recovering nicely

Nico Tagliafico won’t participate in Saturday’s game against Heerenveen.  At the press conference, Erik ten Hag explained that the Argentinian wing defender had returned from interlands with a hip injury.

“It’s really a shame”, said the coach about Tagliafico, who played with Argentina against Brazil on Tuesday.  “I hope he’ll be able to play on Tuesday.”

Ten Hag said that Hakim Ziyech was recovering nicely. He was forced to miss the interlands with Morocco due to a muscle injury.  “He’s been able to train up with Ajax well.  He participated in the group training on Thursday, which went well. Today’s training is the next step. But it’s going well, as far as I’m concerned, he can play on Saturday.”

Question marks De Jong, Mazraoui, Eiting

Ten Hag said Frenkie de Jong and Noussair Mazraoui were question marks; or, at least, that they would potentially be sidelined as a precaution.  Carel Eiting is also doubtful due to a knee injury.  Lasse Schöne can definitely play against Heerenveen.  Ten Hag: “Lasse didn’t play the last interland against Denmark. Very smart of him, as he returned to us in good shape.”

Line up remains a surprise

Ten Hag wouldn’t give much away yet about the line-up. Who will be at centre forward? Dolberg? Huntelaar? Tadic? “We’re lucky to have several good centre forwards”, said Ten Hag.  “We can evaluate it on a match per match basis.  It depends on the opponent and, of course, on the form.”
