Nicolae Mitea was operated on his right knee in Amsterdam last Friday. The Romanian was given a new anerior cruciate ligament in the joint.
Mitea suffered a knee injury in the match against Boca Juniors on the Amsterdam Tournament. On the basis of first examinations, the club waited to see if an operation could be avoided. But the damaged ligament proved too instable.
Club doctor Edwin Goedhart says the surgery went well. Mitea was allowed to leave the hospital after two days. The Romanian does his rehab with Ajax and for the next three months, he will be treated and do exercises inside.
Maxwell underwent the same operation at the end of May and is currently doing his rehabilitation in Brazil. Goedhart visited the defender in his home country last week to see how the Ajax player's knee is healing. ,,Maxwell is right on schedule. We expect him back with Ajax early October, and from then he will gradually build up his football training", the team doctor said.
