Stekelenburg keeps clean slate in Holland debut

Maarten Stekelenburg made his debut for Holland in the friendly match against Liechenstein on Friday. The goalkeeper, who kept a clean slate, was the 101st Ajax player to play for the Dutch national team. Holland won 3-0.

Holland, playing with only ten players after 60 minutes when Bouma had to come off, won the friendly 3-0. Johnny Heitinga and Nigel de Jong were unable to play due to injuries. Wesley Sneijder was the only Ajax player to play 90 minutes.

Coach Marco van Basten let Maarten Stekelenburg make his debut in the second half. ,,Maarten did well", said the Holland boss about his young goalkeeper.

Rafael van der Vaart, who had to miss Ajax's last two league games due to injury, replaced Edgar Davids in the second half.

Holland face the Czech Republic, who will miss the injured Tomás Galásek, in Amsterdam on Wednesday in a qualifying match for the 2006 World Cup.
