After reaching a verbal agreement at the end of August, the formalities for Kolbeinn Sigthórsson’s contract extension have been finalized. His contract had been effective until June 30, 2015, and the new and improved contract will be valid until June 30, 2016.
Sigthórsson was born on March 14, 1990 in Reykjavic, Iceland. Before coming to Ajax, the forward played for AZ, Vikingur and HK Kopavogur. The player made his debut on Ajax’s first team on June 30, 2011, during the FC Twente – Ajax (1-2) Johan Cruijff Shield game. The international has played in a total of 98 official matches in Ajax’s first team, scoring 33 times.
Sigthórsson has won the national championship three times with Ajax (2012, 2013, 2014) and also the Johan Cruijff Shield in 2013.
The Icelander is currently suffering from an ankle injury and he is not expected to play again until after the winter break.
