Siem de Jong goes to Newcastle United

Ajax and Newcastle United have reached an agreement for the transfer of Siem de Jong. His contract with Ajax was valid until June 30, 2015.

De Jong was born on January 28, 1989 in Aigle, Switzerland. He came, via De Graafschap, as a junior to Ajax’s youth academy. The player made his debut in the first team on September 26 2007 during the Kozakken Boys – Ajax (1-2) cup match. The attacking midfielder played a total of 244 official matches in Ajax’s first team, scoring 78 times.

De Jong won the KNVB Cup with Ajax in 2010. He won the national championship four times with Ajax (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014) and won the Johan Cruijff Trophy in 2013.

Director of Football Affairs Marc Overmars: “We are happy for Siem de Jong in his transfer to the Premier League. He played in our youth academy for several years, and after that in our first team for six years, where he was very successful. All in all, he’s a perfect example of how we, at Ajax, see things going for our talents. We wish him much success.”
