Ajax have two Romanian players for a try out from Monday. Internationals Vlad Munteanu and Ovidiu Petre will also go on training camp with Ajax to Portugal from Wednesday. Ronald Koeman's squad wil stay in Faro for a week and plays two friendlies: against VfL Wolfsburg (January 15) en Aberdeen (January 18). Subsequently Ajax fly to Egypt, to close off the training camp with a match against Al-Ahly in Cairo on January 24.
Vlad Munteanu is 21 years old and Ovidiu Petre 20 is years old. Both players come from Bucharest: Munteanu from Dinamo and Petre from FC National. Both made their debut in the Romanian national team in the past year. Munteanu and Petre are also part of Romania's under-21 squad, of which Munteanu is the captain. Petre is the captain of his club FC National.
Together with Ajax goalkeeper Bogdan Lobont Munteanu won the national title in 2002. A year earlier he won the national cup with Dinamo.
Vlad Munteanu was closely followed by Real Madrid, Bayern München en Bayer Leverkusen.
Munteanu is a midfielder, Petre plays for his club not only in midfield but also as a central defender. At FC National Petre is coached by former Italian international Walter Zenga. With FC National Petre was responsible for eliminating Heerenveen in the first round of the UEFA Cup this season.
