Ajax and Queeny Menig have reached an agreement for the extension of his contract that had been effective until June 30, 2015. The new, improved agreement is effective per January 1, 2015, until June 30, 2019.
Menig was born in Amsterdam on August 19, 1995. The forward has been playing in Ajax’s youth academy since 2007.
On August 11, 2014, he made his debut in professional football for the Ajax Reserves in the Ajax – Telstar (3-0) Jupiler League match. Until now, Menig has played 10 official matches with that team, scoring four times. On September 24, 2014, the winger made his debut in the first team during the Watergraafsmeer – Ajax (0-9) cup match. Up until now, the talent has played in two official matches in Ajax’s first team, scoring one goal.'
The contract extension is the young winger’s second contract with Ajax: “I’m very happy about this. Ajax is still my dream club. This gives me confidence and peace of mind, so that I can completely focus on football.” The Ajax Reserves player is hoping to be part of the first team’s selection soon: “I hope to take that step as fast as possible. I want to be valuable for the club in the next four and a half years.”
Football affairs director Marc Overmars is happy with Menig’s contract extension: “Queensy is doing great with the Ajax Reserves and he’s improving. The coaches are pleased.” It remains to be seen whether Menig can make the step to the first team soon: “He has specific qualities, but will need to stand out each week with the Ajax Reserves. Then, that step will come.”
