Players from Ajax’s national championship team reported for duty at the Toekomst sports complex on Monday. Throughout the day, a total of 23 Ajax players came to the club for the annual intake. The internationals will join the group at a later stage. The first (closed) training of the 2013-2014 season is scheduled for Tuesday.
Among others, Nicolai Boilesen and Davy Klaassen arrived early in the morning for their intake with the technical and medical staff. It was a great day for these two players especially. After long injuries, both players are once again completely fit. They can therefore take part in the preparations for the new season from the very beginning.
In addition to Boilesen and Klaassen, 21 more players arrived at the Toekomst for their intake. Among them was Riechedly Bazoer, who came from PSV last season but hasn’t played an official match for Ajax yet. Keepers Maurits Schmitz, Mickey van der Hart and Peter Leeuwenburgh had appointments, as well as defenders Sven Nieuwpoort, Joël Veltman, Kenny Tete, Dico Koppers, Ruben Ligeon and Stefano Denswil. Christian Poulsen, Illan Boccara, Joeri de Kamps, Fabian Sporkslede and Thulani Serero underwent several tests during the annual intake. Forwards Derk Boerrigter, Jody Lukoki, Tobias Sana, Lesley de Sa, Dejan Meleg and Gino van Kessel reported as well.
The first training week will close on Saturday, June 29, with a practice match against SDC Putten at Sportpark Putter Eng. After that, the selection will be in Austria for a training camp from July 1 to 9. At that time, the internationals will join the group. Daley Blind and Ricardo van Rhijn are exceptions to this. Due to the youth European Championships, they don’t need to report until July 10. Euro Champs player Danny Hoesen will join the club on July 1. He joins the group earlier due to the little playing time at the European Championships in Isreal.
