Pienaar hoping to play on Wednesday

Ajax Amsterdam midfield star Steven Pienaar is confident of taking to the field when his team takes on Ajax Cape Town in the Total Cup on Wednesday night. Ajax Amsterdam are in South Africa for a week-long training camp.

Local fans will be itching to see the player return to the Newlands turf, where he first made a name for himself before his move to Ajax Amsterdam, where he has become a regular in the team and has earned respect across Europe for his fine displays in the Champion's League.

,,I've just recovered from injury and I hope to be playing tomorrow night", the Bafana Bafana international revealed at the Ajax Press conference this morning.

Coach of the Dutch giants, former Netherlands international defender Ronald Koeman, said that he is expecting the player to play his part, however, he said that it is unlikely that the Westbury-born playmaker will make the starting line-up. ,,If Ronald Koeman does not play him, he can give Steven back to us'', Gordon Igesund joked at the press conference.

Hans Vonk, goalkeeper of the national team of South Africa, is also part of the team from Amsterdam. ,,Every time I come back here, I enjoy it more.'' Vonk was born in South Africa, but lived there for only two years. ,,I was asked by the FA if I wanted to play for South Africa, and I figured that my chances would be greater than to wait for an invitation for Holland.''

Gordon Igesund, coach of Ajax Cape Town, declared himself happy with the opportunity to play the Amsterdam team. ,,It's a great chance for the players to show what they can do. They all have the example of Steven Pienaar.''
Pienaar himself is looking forward to the match between the two Ajax's. ,,It feels good to be back here'', he said. ,,My hart is here, but of course I play for my team, so I won't hold back when I score against Ajax Cape Town, because we want to win.''
