It could have been so nice. Five minutes before the end of the first macth of the Sony Amsterdam Tournament, Arsenal - River Plate, substitute Dennis Bergkamp headed on goal. Unfortunately for him, Arsenal and his many fans, the ball went wide. The match ended in 0-0.
A minute from time, the former Ajax player had another chance, but this time his attempt was blocked, at the expense of considerable pain, by Eduardo Tuzzio.
There were hardly any good chances in the opening match of the tournament. Reyes and Fabregas came close for Arsenal, where former Feyenoord player Robin van Persie played a decent match.
The crowd did not get into it until Bergkamp replaced Van Persie after an hour. The popular Dutchman tried, but could not alter the outcome of the uninteresting game.
Both River Plate and Arsenal now have one point. The teams can earn three point for a win, one for a draw and one for every goal the team scores.
