Ajax and Norbert Alblas (20) have reached an agreement to extend his contract which had been effective until June 30, 2015. The new agreement goes into effect on July 1, 2015, until June 30, 2016.
Alblas was born on December 12, 1994, in Amstelveen. The keeper has been playing in Ajax’s youth academy since 2011 and is part of the Ajax Reserves’ selection. He made his professional football debut on August 16, 2014, in the Fortuna Sittard – Ajax Reserves (0-2) Jupiler League game. The goalie has played a total of eight official matches with the reserves.
Four months after his debut in professional football, Alblas got injured to his knee. This injury has kept him sidelined since December 8, 2014. After his operation in January this year, his focus is on his recovery. The contract extension gives him motivation. “Despite my injury, the club let me know that they wanted to continue with me. That gives me confidence. My job now is to get fit again and come back as strong as possible. The expectation is that I’ll still be in recovery until the winter break. I’m hoping to play matches again at the start of 2016.”
Alblas is part of a talented generation of Ajax keepers. The keeper of the future is included in this scenario. Marc Overmars, director of football affairs: “One of them will have to make it to the first team. That’s what should happen, anyway. We want to teach the future keeper of Ajax 1 ourselves.”
More about Norbert Alblas’ contract extension can be seen on Ajax TV as of Tuesday evening.
