'Match of the year on Sunday'

Miralem Sulejmani is delivering an outstanding season. De Serbian forward has played 52 of the Ajax’ 54 official matches this year, leading the squad. He has added thirteen goals to that. “ I can clearly state this is my best season for Ajax” the Ajacied said after Friday’s training session.

Miralem Sulejmani had said in an earlier interview with that playing time was essential for him. And he leads the roster in official appearances, with 52 out of a possible 54 matches. “ I need a lot of matches to reach my best level. In the first half of the season I did not play that much. I then mostly came off the bench to contribute in the attack. Only after the winter break did I really start playing” he said after practice under the sun of spring.

Sulejmani is content about his progress this season. With his good play, in particular in the second half of the season, the winger is having a good season. “In every aspect, not only on the field, this is my best year at Ajax. I am fit and feel good.”
However, the Serb remains critical with himself. “ It’s not that bad” are his repeated words. “ I expect a lot from myself. I know that I can do better, but it’s not that bad. I also contributed some goals along the way.” Says Sulejmani. He fainlty smiles when his tally of thirteen goals becomes the subject of conversation. “ Thirteen goals is good, but I still expect more. I must score more and make more assists.”
Sulejmani can work on that during the championship match against FC Twente on Sunday. “These are the best two clubs in The Netherlands” he looks forward to the ecounter in the Amsterdam Arena. “We played well last week against them in the Cup final. But that match is over now, and we have no time to look back at it. Sunday, the title in on the line.”

Ajax against Twente is an even match-up, Sulejmani knows. “ We are one training away from the match of the year. It must become the icing on the cake. It will certainly not be easy, and I expect a tough match. Twente has a good team, but so do we. And we are playing at home. The fans will be the twelfth man on our side. And we must finish it off by showing full commitment for ninety minutes and give it our maximum. We should give 150 percent”.

Should Ajax win the title on Sunday, and finally add the third star to the shirt, does Sulejmani have a party plan? “ I do not really know” he says with a smile. He clearly does not want to think too far ahead. “ Let’s first await four fifteen on Sunday, when the final whistle will blow. I’ll then see how it is celebrated”.
