Partly thanks to two goals of Ajax winger Nicolae Mitea Young Romania won the qualifiying match for the European Championship against Young Aremnia by 5-0 on Tuesday. Mitea's team now lead group 1, the group in which Young Holland also play. Elsewhere, Belgium under 21 defeated Serbia & Montenegro by 4-0.
Nicolae Mitea was the best player on the pitch and the early goal came after a perfect cross by the Ajax player. He himself made it 3-0 two minutes before halftime. In the second half Moti scored Romania's fourth from a corner kick by Mitea and then the left winger made it 5-0 after an excellent solo.
Tom de Mul started for Young Belgium. The Ajax winger played 56 minutes and saw his team eventually defeat Serbia & Montenegro by 4-0. Thomas Vermaelen did not receive any playing time.
