Ajax and Lucas Andersen have reached an agreement to extend his contract, which had been effective until June 30, 2016. The new and improved contract is retroactively effective per January 1, 2015, until June 30, 2018.
Andersen was born on September 13, 1994, in Aalborg, Denmark. The multifunctional forward came from the Danish club Aalborg BK in the summer of 2012. He made his debut in the first team on December 8, 2012, during the Ajax – FC Groningen (2-0) competition match. To date, the Dane has played 48 official matches in Ajax’s first team, scoring 4 times.
The Dane is pleased to stay with Ajax for a longer time. “I think my development is going well. I can still achieve a lot with Ajax. It’s great that many key players have extended their contracts. My goal is to become one of those players. With this group, we can do great things.”
Andersen is convinced that he has more to offer. “I’ve played a lot this season and feel that I’m ten times better than last year. But I still need to get better, and will work harder to continue my development. You haven’t seen the best Lucas yet.”
Marc Overmars is convinced of Andersen’s attributes. “We have a lot of confidence in him”, said the director of football affairs. “Lucas is a huge talent and now needs to become a mature player. That’s his next step.”
